Advantages and Capabilities of Artificial Intelligence
Advantages and Capabilities of Artificial Intelligence

As compared to traditional computing, many people are giving importance to Artificial Intelligence. As it allows solving the problems in no time, recently, Google has also launched a new program named AlphaFold2 that helps solve the protein-folding problems. The scientists have been battling with this problem for 50 years and AI has helped them to resolve it in no time.

From designing to creating toys, everything is now done with the help of Artificial Intelligence. In this blog, you will get all the details about AI and its use in Space Exploration.

What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial intelligence (AI) refers to machines that are designed in such a way that they can think and work like humans. Besides, these machines can also mimic their actions perfectly. In simple words, AI is all about learning and solving problems that are difficult for humans. The main purpose of AI is to rationalize and take necessary actions to achieve a specific goal. From cleaning to washing clothes, you can find AI everywhere.

The main subset of Artificial intelligence (AI) is machine learning which refers to the concept that machines can learn new things. However, keep in mind that Artificial Intelligence is now all about Robots; there are many other things where you can easily find this concept. For Example, face detection, text editors, and different other tools are using this concept to solve and execute the tasks.

Types of Artificial Intelligence?

It is divided into four different categories. Let’s discuss them one by one for more information.

1.   Reactive Machines

The first one on the list is Reactive Machines. They are known as the simplest level of robots. However, these machines can’t handle complex things as compared to other machines. Even they can’t influence future decisions; that is why they are called simple machines. Moreover, these machines are only used to react to current situations.

The best example of Reactive Machines is IBM’s Deep Blue, which is basically used to play chess and also helps to evaluate chess board pieces. Since it doesn’t help to learn or improve the way chess is played that is why it is categorized as a Reactive Machine.

2.   Limited Memory

A Limited Memory machine, as the name suggests, is used to retain some details from surrounding events. The best example of Limited memory is self-driving cars, as they capture data from lane markings and maps. Also, they observe movements from pedestrians.

So, we can say that limited memory machines have the ability to change themselves according to the situations and the environment around them. Since these machines have limited memory available, it’s difficult to gather a large amount of data.  As compared to Reactive Machines, these have the ability to learn more things and make sure to improve their responses.

3.   Theory of Mind

The third type of Artificial Intelligence is the Theory of Mind. It’s the most important type as it helps to detect the thoughts and feelings of human beings. Different machines have been created which helps to imitate human moods. In simple words, those machines that help to understand people and animals have feelings and thoughts are added in the Theory of Mind.

These machines collect information from humans and learn different things from them. A famous example of this type is Sophia that was created by Hanson Robotics. His main idea was to show the world that Robots are not only capable of doing tasks, but they can also feel others emotions and thoughts. Although Sophia is not able to fully understand human emotions, she can make a basic conversation and react to different situations. Also, she can capture facial expressions and tries to copy them exactly.

4.   Self-Awareness

The last type is Self-Awareness machines, but they are more complex than other types that we have mentioned above. These machines understand the existence of humans and understand the things around them. Besides, they know their internal state and react to the situations accordingly. These machines are basically the second version of humans and try to respond to the situations accordingly.

Common Examples of Artificial Intelligence

Below are some of the common examples of AI that you will likely see on a daily basis. Let’s discuss a few of them, so you can understand the concept of Artificial Intelligence.

1.    Face Detection and Recognition

The first one in our list is Face Detection and Recognition. Many people already know that Face Recognition algorithms work on the principles of Artificial Intelligence. Even unlocking the device using Face ID is an important application of AI. However, unlocking the devices is not just the only thing here. There are numerous other factors that make AI much more popular than other things.

2.    Text Editors

Everyone loves to use text editors for typing documents, checking mistakes, perfecting readability, and much more. Have you ever thought about how these applications work? We are sure you haven’t paid attention to this part. All of them work on the principles of deep learning, machine learning, and the natural language process. That is the reason whenever a tool sees a mistake; it provides different options to correct them.

Linguists and computer scientists help to teach the machine about different things just like we were taught in school. So, next time when you see a program, you will easily understand how it’s working.

3.    E-Payments

The good news is that now banks are also using the concept of AI. Yes, you heard this right. Artificial Intelligence is used in banking so that transactions can be done easily. Even it has made it easier to deposit the cheques and make the online payment simpler.

How Artificial Intelligence Can Be Used in Space Exploration

Artificial Intelligence has been improving in all disciplines, and now it’s helping in Space Exploration as well.  The use of AI in space exploration is increasing day by day, and scientists are working on it. It’s not wrong to say that AI is changing the nature of Space Exploration.

Let’s discuss how AI can be used in Space Exploration:

  1. Planning and Mission Designing

It’s not incorrect to say that AI is changing the nature of space. Even now, planning a mission to Mars has been easier with the help of proper planning. We know it’s not an easier task to go to Mars, but AI is making everything simple and easy.

Space missions are now relying more on information, and it’s not wrong to say that Artificial Intelligence is working faster than Wikipedia. Because it can now answer complex queries within a few seconds.

Moreover, researchers are also working on the concept of design engineering, which will help to reduce the efforts required on mission designing. The best example of this is Daphne. This machine is used for designing satellite systems which are really helpful in learning details about space.

  1. Navigation Systems

On Earth, we can easily use Maps and different navigation apps to find the correct route. But in space, there are no such things available that can help to find the directions. But thankfully, AI is helping to improve these things as well. It is helping people to explore the planets by using different photographs. Not only does it help to explore things, but also provide different theories, such as one day Mars will have water on its surface.

  1. Making Space Flights Better

There is no doubt that AI has saved many lives on Earth. But the good news is that it is also helping things better in Space. The scientists are also training the models, so they can detect things and identify the signals. So, we can say that AI is helping people to overcome the challenges they face in space.

Furthermore, the concept of self-driving spacecraft is also becoming very popular. Scientists are working hard to understand the concept of self-driving so that minimal efforts can be reduced while launching the flights.

  1. Space Debris

Those who know about space are aware of Space Debris. Astronauts have been trying to find out ways to tackle Space Debris, and AI is also helping them in completing this mission. There are more than 34,000 objects present in space that can be a serious threat to people. So, scientists are using AI to find all the possible information about space. The other benefit that AI is providing is reducing collisions in space. ML models are created and trained in such a way that more information can be gathered.

Bottom Line

In order to reduce collisions and accidents, it’s essential to create powerful machines. And everything can be possible using Artificial Intelligence. However, there is still a long way to go, but different changes are being implemented so that astronauts don’t have to face any issues in space.

We hope this article has provided you some useful information related to AI and how it can be used in Space Exploration. Don’t forget to share this article with others. For more details, you can check our blog to read valuable information.
