Artificial Narrow Intelligence (ANI)
Artificial Narrow Intelligence is the weakest AI type with a very narrow range of abilities. It can only perform tasks for which it is trained. ANI works according to the data feed to it. It can recognize voices, faces, and other elements from its pre-installed storage. But it cannot take any decision on its own.
ANI is not even near to human intelligence, though it can assist humans in increasing the efficiency and speed of their tasks. The application of ANI is limited to what it has learned or programmed. It cannot figure out anything out of its context. Unfortunately, most of the current applications of AI are limited to ANI type of AI.
Examples of ANI
Virtual assistants like Siri and Alexa are examples of ANI. They can answer your queries based on the information feed to them. Face recognition software is another example of Artificial Narrow Intelligence. Besides that, social media algorithms also work on ANI. They check your past searches and activity and recognize a pattern from it.
Artificial General Intelligence (AGI)
Artificial General Intelligence is also known as Strong Artificial Intelligence and is based on more deep learning. It mimics human-like intelligence and can make decisions of its own. The researchers are still working on AGI and are not yet successful. AGI is inspired by the Theory of Mind. Scientists and experts from the field are trying to replicate the cognitive abilities of the human mind. They aim to develop AI machines that can take decisions on their own based on multiple inputs.
Examples of AGI
No AGI machine has yet developed. But the researchers and explorers are trying to modify self-driving cars to the next level. These cars are expected to drive like a human in all kind of situations. It can take decisions in real-time and have lesser risks of accidents. The current version of self-driving cars is based on ANI and efforts are made to make them AGI driven.
Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI)
Artificial Super Intelligence (ASI) is the far-fetched artificial intelligence future. This type of AI is expected to perform better than human minds and will replace the human workforce. The researchers and explorers of AI see ASI as the ultimate future of AI. But this dream is far from reality, at least for now.

Types of AI Based on Functionality
AI machines and applications are divided into four types based on their functionality, as follow:
Reactive Machines are the simplest AI-based apps. These machines mark the beginning days of AI. At that time, people believed these Reactive Machines as the maximum capability of AI. These machines are artificially intelligent, as they can mimic the ability of the human mind to react instantly against stimuli. But Reactive Machines cannot learn and perform tasks based on memory.

Limited Memory AI mimics the function of the human mind to recognize things based on its memory. Limited Memory-based devices can take decisions based on the data stored in their memory. From surficial learning to deep learning, all AI devices and apps come under this category.

Theory of Mind
Theory of Mind is the current research area of AI. It is expected to be the near future of AI devices and applications. Researchers are using the Theory of Mind to replicate human-like machines. These machines and apps are expected to understand the emotions, beliefs, and feelings of people.
